Amorphous Elemental Boron
Executive standard: Q/YTY002-2011
English another name: Boron
CAS RN: 7440-42-8
1. Physical and chemical properties:
1.1 Elementary symbol: B
1.2 Atomic weight: 10.81(on 1979 international atomic weight)
1.3 Melting point: 2300±2℃
1.4 Sublimation temperature: 2550℃
1.5 Specific gravity: 2.34-2.37
1.6 Solubility: Insoluble in water, ethanol, ethyl ether and hydrochloric acid, but dissolved in cold concentrated basic solution and decomposed H2 at the same time. It can be oxidized by concentrated sulfuric acid or nitric acid to boric acid.
1.7 Properties:
Boron is between metal series with nonmetal series on the periodic table of elements. As its strong electronegative, small atomic radius, and centralized nuclear charge, the chemical properties of it are reactive. It is stable in normal temperature, but it is oxidized when heated to 300℃ and burned if heated to 700℃. It is tasteless and odorless.
Its nonmetal property is similar to silicon. In high temperature, boron can react with oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, halogen or carbon, etc. It can be combined directly with many sorts of metals to form boride. Moreover, boron can be also reacted with organic compounds to synthesize some compounds, in which boron is directly joined to carbon, or oxygen exists between boron and carbon.

3. Uses: Boron has been used mainly in metallurgy, electronics, medicine, ceramics, nuke industry and chemical industry etc, and it has been used in the form of compound or as a additive in alloys. It can be used in smelting of some special alloy steels and as the gas scavenger for the melting steel, in the ignitor of igniton in the electric industry, in the control rod of atomic reactor, and as the high-energy fuels for rocket. It has been as an important material for manufacturing high-purity of halogenated boron and a raw material for a variety of borides. A lot of rare noble metals can be substituted and saved by it. Boron and its compounds can be also used as the catalyst of some organic chemical reactions, etc.
4. Safety instructions: Toxic by ingestion and inhalation. The central nervous system is influenced by ingestion, gastrointestinal tract is stimulated by inhalation and boron poisoning. Eyes bear slight stimulation as well. Operation must be installed with rubber gloves, a respirator and eye protection by wearing protective clothing.
5 Package: Vacuum-packaging. Aluminum foil bag with plastic bag, 1 kg net each.
6. Storage: Store at cool, dry and ventilate. Shelf life of 12 months, if expire, still used if up to standard through retest.
7. Transportation:Avoid rain, sunlight and crash. Don't mix with strong oxidizer.
In addition:The company could research and develop the new products according to the special demand of our clients.
